Does anyone have advice on how to deal with the financial side of things, considering that it will most likely be a private sale? Cheque or bank transfer and wait for the funds to go through?

I've also got a few concerns about the condition which I've posted about here.

That's more or less the ad, although in the original it's all formatted nicely using different sizes etc. and the marimba's details are opposite the picture (don't think I can use columns on LJ), and of course it has my real name and phone number. I'm assuming that the issues I mentioned above aren't going to be problems, but I won't circulate the ad until I'm sure - and until the flat is tidier!

I did have a bit of a pang when I finally uncovered the marimba last night and it sat there calling to me, but just hitting each note to check the tuning has made it abundantly clear that I can't really hold mallets any more; my muscle strength is so poor that I can't hold a pen for more than a few words, and it's been like that for years.

Could some kind person with Photoshop or similar do a version of that picture which doesn't have the background, without distorting the picture of the marimba?

I just rang a percussion shop in London, and was told not to worry about the potential problems and to yank the price up to three-quarters instead of half, so I've put £1600 o.n.o. I hadn't realised that marimbas are tuned relatively sharp: a marimba A should be 442 Hz, and my tuning fork is 440. So the tuning is fine and it's nice to know that I can still hear a difference of 2 Hz. The bloom is normal, that's what happens with wood and I should just give it a polish, and the rough edges are apparently normal too. I'm still dithering over the price, but I reckon that we can always bargain, and that the price is low enough to give the buyer substantial savings and so should hook them in.
