The joys of eco-shopping

Things I have come across while looking at bamboo clothing, and conversations with mirrorshard that resulted from this.

Overpriced bamboo knickers
elettaria: You know, if I'm going to spend £40 on a pair of knickers, I think there are more useful things they could say about them than "BAMBOO IS BREATHABLE, BIODEGRADABLE AND DOES NOT NEED LOTS OF PESTICIDES AND FERITLISERS. BAMBOO CAN GROW BY 3 METRES OVERNIGHT."
mirrorshard: There are many things one wants knickers to do, but growing by 3 metres overnight isn't one of them.

elettaria: To keep sharks out of the water?
mirrorshard: Well, you wouldn't want sharks in your water, would you?
elettaria: Absolutely not.
elettaria: How they'd get through the tap is the part that's puzzling me.
mirrorshard: Very small sharks.
elettaria: But then they'd be cute!
mirrorshard: Yes, but they'd also eat your fingers. And be rather unpleasant in tea.

elettaria: I've just been dithering over this rather pretty top. Never seen a 7 week delivery time on a sale item before.
mirrorshard: What are they doing, growing the hemp specifically for you?
elettaria: Obviously *not* a plant that grows 3m overnight.
