D and I would really love to go away somewhere when he gets time off next month, but this is going to be very difficult as I am vegan as well as having severe ME/CFS. Criteria for the holiday so far:
1. It must be within half a hour or so's drive from central Edinburgh (we'll be taking Handicabs, we don't actually drive).
2. Ground floor or lift, easy access to the shower etc. Quiet!
3. The idea is to take the wheelchair so that we can pootle around close by, so it needs to be somewhere where there are suitable spots for pleasant pootling (hills and cobbles will not be pleasant) practically on the doorstep.
4. We need to be able to eat without spending a fortune or having to go out for every meal, because going out at all is exhausting. I was originally thinking of somewhere self-catering and then just getting in a Tesco order, but all the self-catering places seem to be six-bedroom. We could probably manage with somewhere with a mini-fridge, but I don't know if those are limited to the more expensive places (no way can we afford the sort of hotel my parents use in Edinburgh, for instance). My cousin suggested getting take-aways, which would mean that we'd need a guaranteed place that did decent vegan take-aways locally.
Any suggestions as to how to manage this, or even better, recommendations for particular areas, guesthouses or eating places? I've been told that the villages around North Berwick are nice.
