Just call me Rosencrantz
Sunday, 21 August 2011 09:10 pmD and I have just played a game of Scrabble. To determine who would start first, we took turns to take letters from the bag. For four turns in a row, we both pulled out the same letters, namely R, A, A, I. As far as we know, there are no letters missing from the bag.
bouncy_penguin has just attempted to calculate the probability of this. He gave up, but estimated it to be well under 1 in 10,000, otherwise known as "bloody miraculous". I hasten to add that we all remain resolute atheists, because quite apart from anything else, why on earth should any deity try to send messages in this way? (Although there is an excellent short story by Catherine Merriman on precisely this topic, called "The Experiment".)
And also that I'm really called Guildenstern.
P.S. I won, which only happens about 10% of the time, so the miracle continues.
