The basis of the current inspection system is a lengthy self-evaluation form that school leaders must complete.
Ofsted then comes in to check their findings, rating schools as outstanding, good, satisfactory or inadequate.
"Satisfactory" is regarded as being not good enough.
On a vaguely related note, I read a newspaper article fifteen or so years ago, in The Independent no less, which bewailed the problem that 50% of children have a reading age below the average.
Also, am I the only one who read this article and a) thought that it sounds like they don't want to hear that children drink; b) misread "unions" as "minions"?
