Awwwwwwww!

Dog "fosters" kittens.

I wonder if the kittens will pick up any canine traits?

I feel a little odd using this icon, as the cutie scrimbling in it is the family dog Lucy, who died last week. She was a mad beastie who did a great job of picking a second husband for my mother, and my stepfather always says he fell for Lucy (where there was much mutual adoration and tummy-tickling) before he fell for my mother (where there's lovebirdiness of a slightly different type). It was a very tough decision for my parents, as she wasn't actually dying, unlike when they've put previous dogs to sleep. She was 16, deaf, blind, and the dementia had simply got too bad to let her go on suffering, the poor little thing. My mother's had Yorkshire terriers for forty years and it's so strange to think of her without a dog now.

In other news, I am having a really bad patch with the ME, so apologies to anyone I've ignored on instant messenger, it's mostly because I'm too exhausted to sit at the computer and type, and mostly can't really read anyway at the moment. At least I finally have a good doctor and social worker.

As prompted by [livejournal.com profile] finnygan:

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick four of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee.

I'm planning to run Carmilla in [livejournal.com profile] gothic_lit now that Drac is finishing, it's only a short story/novella and it'll take less than three weeks at one section a day. Could someone with more knowledge of art find me an icon or so? It's a Victorian vampire story, written in 1872 so before Dracula, and distinctly lesbian in content. It's narrated by a young woman who almost falls victim to another seemingly-young woman who comes to stay.

As you will see from my previous entry, [livejournal.com profile] lesliaisons1782 starts in a few days. And it needs icons! At the moment I have icons made by [livejournal.com profile] poisoninjest from the film as placeholders for the character icons, but I don't want to use those if I can help it, since this community is about the novel, not the film. So we want something appropriate to the characters in whatever way, but nothing that is recognisably from a modern staging or film. The current main icon for the comm (the one I'm using here) is actually from the 1988 film, but hopefully you can't really tell that after what we've done to it.

So please, people, help me! Ready-made icons would be fabulous, but ideas that can be worked into icons, such as paintings from the period, would also be great. I know nothing about art and all I know of 18th c French lit is Laclos, so I'm finding it hard to know where to start.
